FAQ
The following is a list of tips for getting the tool to work, formulated in a Q&A format!
I hope it helps, but if not, feel free to message me on Bluesky!
I don't have "line in" on my computer!
You can always try to just record your DS with a normal microphone! You'll definitely need to change the dB offset setting, since the input will be quieter, but it should work (I tested it!)
What's a 44Hz sine wave? How do I record it?
You can generate generate tones using the free audio editing software Audacity, using an online tone generator, or simply listen to a 44Hz sine wave on YouTube.
As for recording it, make sure to play the sound as loud as you can, moving the DS microphone close to the audio source.
I ended up getting better results on my 3DS XL than I did my DS Lite, but I don't know if that just means my Lite's mic is busted... 😔
How do I RNG manipulate?
There's a bunch of great resources online! Here's a few:
Or just look around YouTube for specific guides!
What is that visualization?
It's really just a spectrogram of the input audio, specifically showing the frequency range of ~4500Hz - ~5700Hz. I picked that one... basically at random lol
I used it mostly to dial in the frequency to Chatot pitch formula, but it's also useful for dialing in the dB cutoff!
What does the dB cutoff do?
Basically, it just drops the data on all frequencies below a certain volume. This is useful to filter out the game's back ground music!
When dialing it in, try to have the only thing appearing on the spectrogram be the Chatot.
